I ordered Soforia\u2019s introductory tape at the same time I ordered the Marquesa\u2019s and I finally got it last week. When I first started listening, I thought \u201cbummer\u201d. The technical quality is poor. There\u2019s a loud background hiss and at one point she even hits the mike. Her voice is high and oddly cadenced. There\u2019s not a lot of dramatic phrasing, so you don\u2019t get much of an impression of the person behind the voice. She speaks in a slow sing-song, which is kind of boring–certainly not sexy. But it is very relaxing, and her visualizations were delightful.
\nIt wasn\u2019t until about the third hearing that I realized how effective she was. When she brought me back, my mouth felt like I\u2019d been sucking on a wool sweater. I had been
\nlistening with my mouth open and it was dry because I didn\u2019t care about swallowing. I didn\u2019t care because it wasn\u2019t my responsibility. Somebody else was in charge of my body.
\nIt was like my conscious mind was someplace above my zonked body with nothing to do but listen and watch. Very cool. The tape\u2019s a steal for $20.
\nJeez, I thought. I guess I was right about the Marquesa. More of a dominant than a hypnotist. I decided to do a back to back comparison–first Soforia, then the Marquesa.
\nThe term for the result is synergy. It\u2019s accurate, but not very descriptive. Could I interest you in a \u201csynergistic combination of caffeine, alchohol and sugar? How about an Irish Coffee?
\nMarquesa describes her voice as angelic. Well, technically, she may be correct. Satan himself was an angel. In describing his fall from grace in Paradise Lost, Milton has him musing, newly arrived on the shore of the lake of fire: \u201cBetter to rule in hell than serve in heaven!\u201d There is that kind of \u201cangelic\u201d quality in Marquesa\u2019s voice and script. And it isn\u2019t easy to let yourself be hypnotized by somebody you think lights cigarettes with their finger.
\nSoforia does sound angelic. She\u2019s such a gentle, easy guide, you don\u2019t notice at first how much deeper you go. And how quickly you learn to respond almost instantly to her post hypnotic suggestion to return to deep hypnosis.
\nThe synergy is once Soforia can take you deep, Marquesa can take you that deep too. A warning from the Surgeon General would be appropriate here.
\nThere\u2019s a lot of BS out there about hypnosis–I\u2019m talking about the \u201cyou won\u2019t do anything under hypnosis you wouldn\u2019t do wide awake\u201d crap. Have you ever done
\nanything drunk you wouldn\u2019t do sober? Where do you think they come up with lyrics like \u201cYou sure look pretty in the beer sign light\u201d? Or bumper stickers like \u201cOf course I\u2019m
\ndrunk! I\u2019m no damned stunt driver!\u201d If you don\u2019t think hypnosis can be more powerful than a sixpack, you need a designated brain.
\nI have three of Marquesa\u2019s tapes. Whoever wrote their scripts, and I suspect she did, has an instinctive grasp of the relationship between sex and power that I put somewhere beyond where Freud, Adler and Jung left off. That level of understanding is powerful enough to be dangerous in itself. Combine it with a beautiful, manipulative woman who\u2019s
\ntaken up hypnotism, and the equation E=mc^2 is demonstrated.
\nBecause I sensed that, my instinctive resistance to her hypnosis remained high, even though I found the experience very pleasant and arousing. Soforia doesn\u2019t give off those kind of vibes. So I let myself go deeper for her, and the next thing I knew, I was at that level for the Marquesa.
\nMy plane leaves for LA in 10 hours. Hmm. I wonder if there\u2019s a connection between the last two sentences? Naw. You\u2019d never do anything under hypnosis you wouldn\u2019t do
\notherwise. Everybody knows that.
\nI have no expectations of my session with her. That is a part of her message I accept. The reason I give myself for accepting that is that I\u2019m tired of being dominant, and tired of struggling against a real impulse to be submissive. I am a top in the real world. Men find my intelligence, wit and tongue intimidating. so most of my friends are women. The women look to me for support and charm, which I am usually delighted to provide. In both cases, I have to think for others. I\u2019m paid for it, but it\u2019s work.
\nThe hardest thing to learn in becoming a military pilot is formation flying. To maneuver a jet with its wing a yard from another plane\u2019s–so close you can read the lettering on the
\nother pilot\u2019s helmet–seems insane at first. But they tell you flying \u201cwing\u201d–that is just sticking to someone else\u2019s wing, regardless of what they do–is the easiest part of
\nformation flying. The hardest part is flying \u201clead\u201d–that, is leading the formation, with everyone following what you do.
\nIt took me maybe 40 hours to realize they were right. Once I overcame my intense desire to die any other day but today and learned to tuck my wing right in behind somebody
\nelse\u2019s, life became a simple matter of hand-eye coordination. No thinking. Thinking was counterproductive. It led to speculation about why my life insurance premiums were so much higher than people who smoked two packs a day. Or wonder about \u201cwhen is he going to pull out of this dive anyway, in China?\u201d
\nLead was the drag. The hard job, all right. It\u2019s like driving 2 or 4 Formula One cars at once. You have to constantly think how every maneuver will effect the other planes in
\nyour formation. A 3 \u201cG\u201d maneuver for you could be a 7 \u201cG\u201d maneuver for tail-end Charlie. It doesn\u2019t take long for you to appreciate how much easier it is to fly \u201cwing\u201d.
\nThat\u2019s a long digression, but it\u2019s the clearest way I can think of to explain why I\u2019m flying to LA with no expectations. There is another explanation, of course. If you listen to the
\nMarquesa\u2019s tape, you\u2019ll know what I mean.
\nI do have a couple of hopes. One is that the Marquesa has or learns she has the ability to dominate me in any way she chooses. I feel if she is confident and secure in that ability, I will respond as she wants and she will have the confidence to use me in ways that are profitable to her. I do want to serve her. That is a message from her tapes I haven\u2019t even
\nbothered to justify in terms of my own wants or needs.
\nThe other is that I develop the trust and confidence in her to accept that shame and humiliation at her hands are what she has taught me to believe they are. That she will pull
\nout somewhere this side of a smoking crater. I hope that in spite of her power, I can say back to her \u201cbetter to serve in hell than rule in heaven\u201d.
