It’s true  that to enjoy pleasure, people will do all sorts of things that are unusual, surprising, or even dangerous.  For instance, a few years ago, word got out that licking glands on the belly of certain species of toads could make people get high.  Well, You/you guessed it:  Some people started licking toads right and left.  Unfortunately for them, some toad licking folks were poisoned in their search for the next good natural high.
