Tabula Rasa (con’t) Day 8 & 9

Day 8

She came for breakfast this morning. I had been dreading seeing her, and was indeed very uncomfortable. I didn’t know what to say or how to act. I took my seat at the table and sat mutely, eyes downcast as she laid out the food.

“Why so glum?” she asked.

“I’m ashamed,” I answered. Read more…

Birthday Candor

“Hello,” she answered. I recognized her voice immediately.

“Hi,” I replied scratchily, suppressing a nervous cough.

“This is the Goddess Marquesa,” she said, “to whom am I speaking?”

Aldo looked at Goddess Marquesa’s sleeping form. She was as gorgeous as he remembered. The moonlight coming through her bedroom window revealed lines of age, or perhaps care, on her face. But no time or mood could detract from her beauty. Aldo could still feel the tingling on his cheek from the slap she gave him as the Federales dragged him off to prison. Even if she had not been his greatest enemy, she would be in all ways unforgettable. Read more…

Giving Thanks

Giving Thanks

a story conceived by Goddess Marquesa

The staff had asked me to arrive at the Whispering Angel Shelter at 5 AM, since that is when setup begins, but I was not inclined to get up that early on a holiday. When I arrived with my entourage at 9 on Thanksgiving morning breakfast was already being served. By the time Francine, the cute young photographer I had hired for the occasion, had finished taking pictures of me entering the shelter from various angles, it was almost 9:30 when I finally strapped on an apron and joined the other volunteers serving the last few breakfasts.
