The Journey

The road stretched out ahead as the shoes began their repetitive striking of the pavement. The air crisp and cooly filling his nostrils and lungs. Perfect weather to stretch the legs and push a bit harder today. As the sun sank down, down off the edge of the horizon leaving the dusk to keep the road lit, thoughts turned to the day before. Her brown eyes glanced up at him. She had been pulling a friday night piece of pizza from the box. Her expression mostly unchanging as she said, “no, you’re right.” It was one of those moments. A moment that was inevitable. There was a small voice inside him that said, “I know she’s gonna say Yes, when you’re not around I miss you and it’s totally different. “But she didn’t. She said what his heart thought she would say. The running shoes dug harder into the asphalt.

MADAME MAGDA The Fortune Teller

“Madame Magda—Reader and Adviser” the carved wood sign read. It hung over the entrance to a door at a modest home in a residential area of a large city. Bob Cunningham looked around and again questioned the wisdom of his two friends who had advised him to see Magda. Over lunch he had told a couple of his friends that he had read about burglaries at art studios in town. Since he owned one of the larger galleries in the city he wanted to take more security precautions to protect his property. Both friends, also gallery owners, instead suggested that he visit Magda. They told him that she could tell, just by talking to him, if he needed more protection. Bob didn’t go in for mumbo-jumbo stuff like fortune tellers but his friends were so insistent that he agreed to see her just to placate them. Read more…
